The Web Without Banners

Well Google is doing it again.  Just causing hate and bliss all over the place.  I actually got word of this algorithm change a couple of months ago and immediately started changing all my sites to be once again, "Google Compliant."  I have to give it to them, hands down though they were the Bomb when it came to that "SOPA" bill, of course they really didn't have much of a choice in the matter.

So I've been here for the ride for all these Panda updates, all the on page seo, the off page seo, the do-follow, the no follow, the list goes on and on.

My Synopsis:  Google is Getting Rid of Internet Marketers PERIOD!

I've made this statement before, and people have come back at me, and told me I was wrong.  Just think about every move they have made.  It all points to that direction. The new changes which have already take effect require that you have at least 30% of your content above the fold.  Now if you're not familiar with that term, it's time you became aware. This simple means all content, media, images, etc that are first displayed in your browser before you scroll.  If you have to scroll then the content you now see is below the fold.

Now you know why I've made the changes to this website.  I had all these emails saying, it doesn't have the commercial appeal it used to, they liked seeing the different promotions in the blue bar, etc.  Well I don't have a choice because once again Big Daddy came around and spanked everybody again.

Changes to the fold

I'm just getting started! The goal is to get as much content as possible above the fold.  So the menu at the very top I will be removing that.  I will also be shrinking down my main header image.  I will also be shrinking down my main headline font.  Simple because the team over at Google got a wild hair.

Here is a better example.  I've given you a screen shot of two Niche sites, whose primary monetization was accomplished with Adsense, ClickBank, and Amazon.  The one on the right you might notice contained (2) 250x300 Adsense blocks.  Are you seeing how there is NO content above the fold?  Now the one on the right, we simply removed on of the blocks of Adsesne and we're getting closer to that 30% margin.

Changes to the fold

All in all, it makes sense.  However, I'm just tired of messing with Google.  They have us jumping through hoops like pink poodles at the circus seriously.  It's getting old.  However I will keep playing their games, until somebody else comes in and knocks them out, if I'm still alive!

Mark my word on this!

Google is one of the most greedy bastards out there.  Today it is the ads above the fold.  Next they will penalize you for having ANY ads on your site!  I see it coming.  However, there is an exception.  Can you guess what that would be?  Sure, they are going to force everybody to use their AdNetwork.  I think it's a bunch of BS, however I realize the only true contender to Google is Facebook, and God help us if they take over!

So let me conclude with this.  If this post helped you realize you need to make some current changes to your site, then Google has been nice enough to provide you a tool to help you implement those changes.  Bend over and take it, as of right now you don't have much of a choice.  Doesn't this sound a bit like black male?  You do what I want and I will reward you, however if you do not your going to end up on your ass!

Hey Henry,

Seeing as how it hasn’t happened yet, call it a conspiracy theory. They have basically already penalized the banners above the fold, they are just doing it in a sneaky way, and saying we require 30% content… Same thing dude! My theory states there goal is for people to use their ad network, and that’s it.. Time will tell :)

I can’t even think in such way. But from the images it is seen clearly that you are right Chad. Hope that they will not force!

“Doesn’t this sound a bit like black male?”

What do you mean by that?

What’s happening is that the people in power are trying to enslave us more and more. SOPA is the Patriot Act of the internet. Not much we can do about it since society won’t wake up.

I heard this somewhere else before. I wonder if it is the same for small 468 wide banners that are included in your header? I guess in some way this makes it better for the user since they are seeing content rather then a couple of adsense boxes. You can tell when there is that much adsense they are just in it for the clicks rather the helping people.

I understand why you hate Google. Google should not do that because for how many years of the effort we had made to make Ads and with just a blink of an eye it gone! No way! Google should not do that.

This post proves my theory also Chad and this was one of the very reasons for me starting my company. This theory was included in one of my pros when writing my company’s business plan.

While we are now promoting our new ad network, we are also discovering that many of the quality websites owners are afraid to used multiple ad networks along side Google ads. This is the very reason small or large Ad networks cannot compete with Google; Example: Yahoo and Bing.

I had to develop some very interesting strategies to even make any potential advertisers consider using our advertising platform over Google. Google has over 1 million + advertisers and believe me, our research says they are complaining just like their 1 million+ publishers..

The only method we are using to attract decent websites for publishers is by actually prepaying them to become a beta tester for user. There are also sites that have been banned that will accept our publisher program more easily.

Many bloggers are afraid to use other ads network along side google, because if you remember years ago when Google announced that you can not display other ads that look like Google text ads. Think about this; what ad networks are not contextual besides?

Chad, you and I share the same theory that Google wants to be the only ad network period. I like the fact that Google has made search easier and focuses on the “business numbers” which is how many business succeed. But without focusing on developing more positive customer relationships; this will be the very reason they failed.

This is fantastic information. It really puts you ahead to the game. Just so I get my head around this google will start penalizing for having banner ads above the fold? Is that correct.

Once again thanks for the information!!!

Hey Chad,

Came across your post on a Warrior Forum thread where you did a nice review of a plugin. Anyway, you have a typo here, should be “blackmail”, not “black male”. Like what I’ve read in your other articles so I will be tuning in.
